AUT has its head in the cloud: Student Digital Workspace
The development and roll-out to the entire student body of a fully functional student portal and collaboration environment built on top of Microsoft Office 365 cloud technology using an Agile Scrum approach. All within the space of 14 short weeks.
Our students told us in no uncertain terms that they we fed up having to sign in to multiple systems to go searching for the information they needed to succeed. They wanted a single portal to provide them with access to all their information and digital services in one place from any device. As well as a focus on collaborative study and success, they wanted a personalised and customisable experience where they could engage in social collaboration.
Quite simply, the answer is quickly! Universities are not known for their rapid decision making. By the time the vision had been approved and the funding secured there was only 14 weeks before the semester started. We assembled a team of heroes, locked them in a room, fed them students and pizza, stirred occasionally, and waited. Luckily we did this over Christmas which minimised the ‘helpful’ involvement of senior staff.
