Presentation TitleVirtual Gets Real: Immersive Technologies Are Now Reality
AbstractMichael will be covering off the latest data, and looking at local research activity underway in VR – in fitness and health, VR together with AI in the vineyard, MR on building sites, AR for the Rugby World Cup, VR in yachting, entertainment and sport and for fitness; all being undertaken in New Zealand. He will talk about the need for a wave of immersive technologists and developers to emerge from our tertiary sector to cover the predicted 1200 shortfall to continue this growth and to commercialise the outputs. Finally, he will touch on the need for global connectedness and our opportunity to exploit international demand.
BioMichael works at the forefront of the cross reality sector (VR/AR) from New Zealand and Taipei (the global capital of VR). He conceived PROJECTR® Wellington and is now establishing PROJECTR® XR Centres in Auckland and Taiwan. Michael chaired the New Zealand VR/AR Association from its inception in 2016, retiring in July 2018. He was appointed a Life Member and Ambassador of the NZVRARA, acknowledging his contribution in driving the growth of New Zealand's VR/AR sector. In 2017, he authored ‘VIRTUAL GETS REAL’ on the New Zealand XR ecosystem and will release a follow up title, ‘GOING NEXT LEVEL’ in September 2018.
