Call for Abstracts

The Call for Abstracts have now closed for 2024! The programme will be available in the late-July. 

We welcome contributions that champion the use of technology, to create outstanding learning experiences, support cutting-edge research endeavours, or add value to your institution in innovative ways. 

Abstracts are welcomed from all areas of IT, Teaching & Learning, Research and Student Engagement within the Tertiary Sector. Share your success stories, lessons learned and best practices from September 2023 - August 2024.

To assist with budget constraints, the organising committee will provide a complimentary registration for the primary presenter of every accepted abstract submission for the 2024 conference!  
Additional presenters will receive a discounted registration fee of $195+GST (Each presentation can have a total of 3 presenters, including the primary presenter). 

Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards

The Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards showcase ICT technology excellence, innovation, and advancements within the New Zealand tertiary education sector.  Along with the fantastic prizes, the Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards are presented at the Conference Dinner to be held on the Wednesday evening. This is the premier event for celebrating and awarding excellence within our sector.​

Award Categories

  • Award for Technology Innovation
    The award for non-BAU, extreme or utterly new use of technology in a tertiary environment. 
    Winner receives $3,000 for their institution.
  • Award for Excellence in Technology Delivery 
    The award for exceptional delivery of technology across projects, service delivery and support.
    Winner receives $3,000 for their institution.
  • Award for Excellence in Technology for Learning, Research or Students
    The award for exceptional delivery of technology supporting the core sector outcomes of Learning, Research or Students. 
    Winner receives $3,000 for their institution.
Presentation Timing & Focus
  • All Tertiary ICT Excellence Award finalists will be given a 25-minute slot in the conference programme.
  • Presentations are 20-minutes including speaker introductions, followed by 5 minutes to answer questions from the judging panel and audience.
  • The presentation is the innovation pitch - focus just on the innovation and outcomes. 
  • Questions and answers are scored, so come prepared!
Judging
The Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards are judged on two components - 
  • The content and quality of the content submission - this will be distributed to conference delegates and judges prior to your presentation.
  • The quality of the information presented during the 20-minutes presentation and your responses during the 5-minute question time. Both the written and presented components should concentrate on service achievements and how the innovation has made a difference to their organisation or key customer group. 

General Submission

The presentation content can be on any topic relating to ICT and the conference theme. Presentation content should encourage, inspire, or inform delegates on IT initiatives that are either being utilised currently or are on the horizon for the New Zealand Tertiary ICT sector. 

Presentation Categories 

  • General presentation
    This is a lecture style presentation... short, sharp, and snappy. Let your imagination run wild and take this chance to showcase advancements or initiatives within your institution.
    30-minute presentation in the conference programme. 
  • Panel Discussions/Debate
    Is there a topic that you feel should be discussed in a group or audience? Time length will be confirmed with the submitter. 
  • Problem Solving
    Do you need help finding a solution to a problem? This session is provided as a discussion forum. You may discuss one or more issues you are presently experiencing and seek solutions and advice from the attendees. You will have 90-minutes to present and discuss your problem.
  • Workshop (short)
    You have 90-minutes to present your topic and engage the audience, providing a more in-depth discussion and illustration of your topic.  

Presentation Timing & Focus

  • General Presentations
    Approximately 25-minute presentation slot within the conference programme (includes speaker introductions and 5 minutes for questions). 
  • Panel Discussion
    Time length to be confirmed with the submitter.​
  • Workshop/Problem Solving
    90-minute time slot to present your workshop and engage the attendees.

Submitting an Abstract

Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards

Download the Excellence Awards Specific Content Template here.  Submit the completed template, with your abstract using the button below before 11:59pm, Wednesday 3 July 2024. 

  • To submit an abstract, you will need: a title; a 300-word maximum abstract summary; a presenter/s bio; and a completed Excellence Awards Specific Content Template.   
  • Entry is open to all conference delegates involved in the Tertiary Sector, whether an individual, team, or institution.
  • This year's submissions are initiatives between the period September 2023 and August 2024.    
  • Conference sponsors or potential sponsors are not eligible. 
  • You may submit more than one award abstract.
  • The Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards judges’ decision will be final. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. Judging of the award categories is undertaken without reference/bias of conference sponsors.
  • The $3,000 Award money is in the form of a bank transfer to the winning institution. These will not be made out to the individual presenters.
  • The Award winners will be announced at the Tertiary ICT Excellence Awards with Dinner on Wednesday 4 September 2024 at the Chateau on the Park, Double Tree by Hilton.

General Submission

Submit your abstract using the button below before 11:59pm, Wednesday 3 July 2024. 

  • To submit an abstract, you will need: a title; a 300-word maximum abstract summary; and a presenter author bio. 
  • Your submission type is made under the Abstract Category theme with the Portal (Awards or General).
  • General presentation submission is open to all conference delegates involved in the Tertiary Sector, whether an individual, team, or institution.
  • You may submit more than one general abstract.
  • Conference sponsors eligible to present will be contacted separately.
  • Decisions regarding presentation selection are undertaken without reference/bias of conference sponsors.
